Globally, nuclear energy is in decline. It peaked as a proportion of energy the world over in 1996. It’s less than half of that now. What the Coalition are essentially trying to do is pull the wool over the eyes of the Australian people by having this ridiculous, magic fantasy rather than a sensible, genuine policy that would get us through the energy transition.

I started by asking him if he supports the Senators indefinite suspension from the Labor caucus. JOSH WILSON: The path that Fatima has chosen brings consequences with it. We […]

The live sheep export trade is worth less than 1 per cent of Western Australian agricultural output, less than 0.1 per cent of Australian agricultural output. It’s not the main game in WA and it’s been a dying trade for the entirety of the 21st century, it’s declined by more than 90 per cent.

Those things aren’t easy or straightforward to achieve. Australia isn’t able to bang its fist on the table and insist that other governments act in a particular way, and we wouldn’t expect other governments to think they could do that with respect to Australia, but I think that steady patient, but clear and committed, work has made a difference in this case.

When you think that we’ve seen the wholesale destruction of Gaza, a relatively small area of land and civilians forced and encouraged to go into a place that they understood as a place of refuge, and then they’re on the receiving end of an additional bombardment, it has a predictable result. So Australia, the Australian Government, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, will continue to take the position that Australia should take, which is to call for an end to the violence, advocate and vote for a ceasefire at the UN, when we have the opportunity to do that.

There’s no reason – with an assistance package of $107 million – that we can’t continue down the path of having more exports in the form of a higher value fresh, chilled and frozen boxed trade.

There is a place for activism and community protest and ordinary civil and political engagement. In fact, it’s one of the most precious features of our democracy. So, I think we should all speak up for that each and every day, and I will.

It’s well and truly time for him to go free. That’s the message from the Australian Government, the PM has said that, and indeed the leader of the opposition has said that.
And as you referred to before, I seconded the motion in February that was passed by the House of Representatives calling for Julian Assange to be released and to be able to come home and be with his family.

Every time we look, at nuclear, we get the same answer, which is that it’s not economically viable. So, it’s sad and bizarre that the one energy policy Peter Dutton, and Ted O’Brien have come up with is this nuclear energy fantasy.
